April is National Volunteer Month. Many people wonder how they can be involved or how they can get involved. Volunteering usually starts by thinking about what you like to do or are passionate about. For example, Mrs. P is passionate about reading. Many consider volunteers as people who like to give, but let me share a little secret, when you volunteer you also receive so much back. I know this first hand from my association with Everybody Wins! USA.
When I started my interactive storytelling website www.MrsP.com I connected with EverybodyWins! USA as we both share a common goal; to get kids excited about reading. They offered me the opportunity to go to schools they work with to read aloud to first and second graders. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences. While I am volunteering my time, I also get so much back. I have attached one of the many letters I have received from children, who I have met on my travels while reading.
Reading aloud with children is the single most important activity for helping them become successful readers. So if you love reading like I do, think about the joyful feeling of reading aloud with a child.

If you love reading, think about giving one of your weekly lunch hours to the Everybody Wins Power Lunch mentoring program. In this one-on-one reading program, you get a chance to read aloud, share your favorite stories, and talk about books! What could be better than that!
When you volunteer you really do make a difference. Using your skills to help or benefit others, also puts you around others who share your interests. Volunteering can make you feel part of a community and the rewards of being involved are endless.Reading aloud with children is the single most important activity for helping them become successful readers.
