Everybody Wins! USA Recognizes Top Power Lunch Partners

Boston, MA — August 5, 2009 — Everybody Wins! USA announced today the top Power Lunch partners that volunteered among its 14 Everybody Wins! affiliates and partners nationwide in the 2008-2009 school year.

 

"Everybody Wins! USA strongly values its affiliates’ partners' service, and we want to highlight these top partners' commitment to make a difference in the lives of the children and communities they serve,” said Rich Greif, National Executive Director of Everybody Wins! USA.

More than 580 organizations and 7,800 individuals volunteer in Power Lunch locally with Everybody Wins! affiliates and partners; the top two organizations per affiliate were selected based on the number of volunteers participating in Power Lunch at each affiliate. The honorees are as follows:

Matthew Broder Elected Chairman of the Board of Everybody Wins! USA

Boston, MA - July 9, 2009 - The Board of Directors of Everybody Wins! USA announced today that Matthew Broder has been elected as Chairman of the Board. He assumes this new role from Chris Mundy, who has been Chairman since the organization's founding in 2005 and will continue to serve on the Board of Directors.
 
Broder is the Vice President of External Communications at Pitney Bowes Inc. and first joined the Everybody Wins! USA board in 2006. Mr. Broder is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut. He is an active Everybody Wins! volunteer in Stamford, Connecticut, and was instrumental in the launch of a new Everybody Wins! chapter based at his alma mater, Yale University.
 
"We are thrilled that Matt has been elected to chair the Board of Everybody Wins! USA - bringing new dimensions to our work at a time when we are poised to expand our reach to serve more low-income children," said Chris Mundy. "As the outgoing Board Chair, I want to thank all of the Everybody Wins affiliates, partners and fellow board members for their support in creating a national Everybody Wins! office to help foster the growth and expansion of our programs, and I look forward to continuing to help expand the number of children we serve."
 
Broder's election is one of several recent changes on the Everybody Wins! USA board of directors. Janine Roberge of Boston, Manar Morales of Washington, DC, Paul Harkins of New York and Ron Shah of Atlanta have all recently joined the Everybody Wins! USA board. In addition, founding board members John F. Cozzi of New York and Mark D. Young of Washington have stepped down from the board. Cozzi remains active as a board member of Everybody Wins! New York, while Young continues to serve on the board of Everybody Wins! DC.

Everybody Wins! USA Literacy Programs Served Over 11,000 Children in 2008-2009

Boston, MA — July 1, 2009 — Everybody Wins! USA’s network of 14 affiliates and nonprofit literacy partners served 11,785 children in the 2008-2009 school year, it was announced at its Board of Directors meeting on June 26th. The total number of children served represents a 31% increase over the 2007-2008 school year.

USA board, we want to recognize this tremendous achievement in growth and express our deep appreciation to all of the Everybody Wins! affiliate staff, school partners, volunteers and more than 500 business, government and nonprofit organizations that participate in our programs."

 

Everybody Wins! largest literacy program, Power Lunch, served 6,635 children and 7,827 reading mentors at 176 elementary schools, an increase of 10% compared to the 2007-2008 school year. Everybody Wins! affiliates also served 3,826 children through its Story Time program and 1,324 children through its Readers are Leaders program.
